December Project
Four HUGE projects taking place December 1-8 2007

UPDATE- April 18 2008!

See March 2008 Updates !

Project 1 The primary team will renovate a 600 student grade school in the poorest corner of a city of one million. The school in the Zapotal neighborhood has rotted roofs on all four buildings, broken windows, old, weak or broken fans, broken pavement everywhere and no bathrooms or clean water. We will team with city Rotarians and community parents to install all new steel roofs, new windows and fans, 11 lavatories with sinks, a water purification system, more classrooms, including a vaulted computer classroom with A/C and a soccer field inside the school compound. Oh, yes, and 600 soccer uniforms and a covered outdoor stage. To show their gratitude, the parents have removed a dozen giant 40 year old trees, massive roots and all broken concrete. They have also conducted fund raisers to pay for two new classrooms. These are families that earn less than $1 per hour.

Project 2 A dental team, assisted by Dr. Maria Dolores Zablah and Dr. Gabriella Zablah from the local Valle de Sula Rotary, will perform root canals, extractions and build replacement bridges and caps.

Project 3 A Rotary team, led by Honduran Rotarian Leda Martinez, Assistant District Governor, will refurbish a public shelter across from the main hospital. They will install a 150-bed area for pre and post operative patients, including a 50-bed maternity ward for villagers that have come down from the mountains, and long term chemotherapy patients. We will install washing machines, driers and a large eight burner stove for families and caregivers.

Project 4 Two doctors will spend some time with orphans and school children.

Thus, D6400 once again found the "Will and Skill" to help their neighbors to the south in Honduras.
