View a short video clip about "Hearts and Hands for Honduras"

"Hearts and Hands for Honduras" is a project created and organized by Rotarians from District 6400 and Rotarians in Honduras. This project will include the building of a school, putting in a clean water filtration system, and renovating a near-by health clinic. There are over 30,000 people living in this community and they really need help.

For years now, Plymouth Rotarian and ex-pilot Tom Kennedy has been traveling back and forth to Honduras and providng them with support, supplies, materials, and help. Over the years, Tom noticed the need is greater than he imagined. He wanted to share the story of Honduras with others and especially District 6400 Rotarians.

Tom was willing to share and give programs to whomever would listen. He had sparked some interest with several Rotarians in the District. These interested Rotarians organized and planned a trip to Honduras in February of 2007.

Fourteen Rotarians from the Romulus, Carleton, Plymouth, an Wayne clubc set out on a journey to investigate, support, and provide help to the needy people in Honduras. While there they met up with 3 Rotary clubs in the San Pedro sula area. These clubs, Usula, Valle de Sula, and San Pedro Sula met the District 6400 Rotarians with open arms. While there the 14 Rotarians we exposed to so many different projects, orphanges, needy people and friendly Honduran Rotarians, that the trip changed their lives forever.

Not being able to just look away from the need, these Rotarians wanted to get involved in a project and they settled on 1 project to start with.

The initial goal of this project is to build a high school for the Santa Cruz area. We need to BUILD another 6-7 classrooms that would provide education for the children in this region up to 12th grade. This crucial step provides the direction these children need to continue onto a university education. Giving these children the tools to succeed will enable them to help their families and provide future generations with hope and opportunity.
Since the community is still recovering from hurricane damage and does NOT have clean water, we also plan to install a clean water treatment system of some type within the facility. By having a water treatment system, the entire school and community can have clean and drinkable water.
